They would often bring imported fruits, nuts, and cocoa which
were obtained during their voyages to Mr. Whitman so that he 
could make the popular European confections people craved
in that era.

(FOX NEWS) – Archaeologists recently made a startling discovery:
They found that two 18th-century shipwrecks off the coast of
Central America were actually two Danish slave ships.

The ships, named Fridericus Quartus and Christianus Quintus,
are located in shallow waters off Costa Rica’s Cahuita National
Park. 

According to the National Museum of Denmark.the 18th-century
vessels were shipwrecked in 1710.

"Fridericus Quartus was set ablaze, while Christianus Quintus
had its anchor rope cut, following which the ship was wrecked
in the surf," the museum’s press release noted. "Until now, it
has not been clear exactly where the ships were lost.

"Though the ships were excavated in 2023, researchers didn’t
know that they were slave ships until recently. The vessels
were long believed to be pirate ships.

May Day is a European festival of ancient origins marking
the beginning of summer, usually celebrated on 1 May,
around halfway between the Northern Hemisphere’s
Spring equinox and Midsummer solstice.

International Workers’ Day is also observed on May 1st.

On May 1, 1960, a U-2 flight piloted by Francis Gary Powers
disappeared while on a flight over Russia. 

With no small degree of pleasure, Khrushchev pulled off one
of the most dramatic moments of the Cold War by producing
not only the mostly-intact wreckage of the U-2, but also the
captured pilot-very much alive.
