Adolf Hitler (April 20, 1889 – April 30, 1945)

Adolf Hitler was a German politician who was the leader of the Nazi
Party Chancellor of Germany from 1933 to 1945 and Führer ("Leader")
of Nazi Germany from 1934 to 1945. As dictator, Hitler initiated World
War II in Europe with the invasion of Poland in September 1939, and
was central to the Holocaust.

Auschwitz concentration camp, the largest mass murder site in
human history.

It was on this day in 1999.

The "El Dorado" arriving with Cuban refugees during the Mariel
Boatlift which began on this day in 1980.

Ted Williams made his baseball debut on this day in 1939.

Williams played his entire 19-year Major League Baseball career as a left
fielder for the Boston Red Sox from 1939 to 1960, only interrupted by time
in the service during World War ll and the Korean War. Nicknamed "The
Kid", "The Splendid Splinter", "Teddy Ballgame", "The Thumper", and
"The Greatest Hitter Who Ever Lived", Williams is regarded as one of the
greatest players in baseball history.

Theodore (Ted) Samuel Williams (August 30, 1918 – July 5, 2002)

Luther Ronzoni Vandross Jr. (April 20, 1951 – July 1, 2005)

Luther Vandross was a singer, songwriter and record producer. Throughout
his career, Vandross was an in-demand background vocalist for several
different artists including Judy Collins, Chaka Khan, Bette Midler, Diana
Ross, David Bowie, Barbra Streisand, Ben E. King, and Donna Summer. He
later became a lead singer of the group Change, which released its gold-
certified debut album, The Glow of Love, in 1980 on Warner Bros. Records.

After Vandross left the group, he was signed to Epic Records as a solo artist
and released his debut solo album, Never Too Much, in 1981. During his
career, Vandross sold over 35 million records worldwide, and received
Grammy Awards including Best Male R&B Vocal Performance four different
times. He won a total of four Grammy Awards in 2004 including the Grammy
Award for Song of the Year for a song recorded not long before his death,
"Dance with My Father”.

On this day in 1912, the ocean liner Titanic sank in the
North Atlantic after hitting an iceberg the evening
before. 1,517 people died and more than 700 people
survived.

On this day in 1865, President Abraham Lincoln died
from injuries inflicted by John Wilkes Booth.

Jackie Robinson played his first major league baseball
game for the Brooklyn Dodgers on this day in 1947. He
previously he had only appeared in exhibition games.

U.S. F-111 warplanes attacked Libya on this day in 1986
in response to the bombing of a discotheque in Berlin on
April 5, 1986.

Pol Pot died at the age of 73 on this day in 1998. The leader
of the Khmer Rouge regime thereby evaded prosecution for

Ryan Wayne White (December 6, 1971 – April 8, 1990)

Ryan White was a teenager from Kokomo, Indiana, who became a
national poster child for HIV/AIDS in the United States after failing
to be re-admitted to school following an AIDS diagnosis. As a
hemophiliac, he became infected with HIV from a contaminated
blood treatment.

Hank Aaron hits 715th home run breaking Babe Ruth’s record on this
day in 1974.

in 1968.

Ray was the accused assassin of Dr. Martin Luther King, JR. 

William Henry Harrison Sr. (February 9, 1773 – April 4, 1841)

William Harrison was the ninth president of the United States (1841). He
was the last president born before the American Revolution, and died
of pneumonia just 31 days into his term, thereby serving the shortest
tenure in United States presidential history. He was the first president
to die in office.

On this day in 1974, Hank Aaron tied Babe Ruth’s major league
baseball home-run record with 714.

Maya Angelou (Marguerite Annie Johnson)
(April 4, 1928 – May 28, 2014)

African-American poet and author Maya Angelou is known for her 1969 autobiography I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, as well as for her poem
"On the Pulse of Morning." She was mute for five years as the result of
trauma and, during this period, developed her lifelong love of literature.

Bishop Patrick, St. Patrick, died on this day in 461 A.D. in the village
of Saul. Ireland celebrates this day in his honor.

St. Patrick’s Day was celebrated in New York City for the first time
on this day in 1756. The event took place at the Crown and Thistle Tavern.

In order to pressure major league baseball to toughen its policy against
steroid use, the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform 
held an 11-hour hearing on March 17, 2005, during which seven former
and current baseball players are questioned. In response to Rep. Henry
A. Waxman’s accusation that all the players must have known about
steroid use in the club houses, Sammy Sosa and Rafael Palmeiro offered
denials, Jose Canseco provided confirmation without a doubt and Curt
Schilling was on the fence.
