of Saul. Ireland celebrates this day in his honor.

St. Patrick’s Day was celebrated in New York City for the first time
on this day in 1756. The event took place at the Crown and Thistle Tavern.

In a televised address to the American people on this day in 2003, President George W. Bush issued Saddam Hussein and his sons  
an ultimatum: leave the country in 48 hours or face war.

Future President Franklin D. Roosevelt married Eleanor on this
day in 1905.

In order to pressure major league baseball to toughen its policy against
steroid use, the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform 
held an 11-hour hearing on March 17, 2005, during which seven former
and current baseball players are questioned. In response to Rep. Henry
A. Waxman’s accusation that all the players must have known about
steroid use in the club houses, Sammy Sosa and Rafael Palmeiro offered
denials, Jose Canseco provided confirmation without a doubt and Curt
Schilling was on the fence.

Russia’s "February Revolution" began on this day in 1917 with
rioting and strikes in St. Petersburg. The revolution was called
the "February Revolution" due to Russia’s use of the Old Style
calendar.

On this day in 1852, Commodore Matthew Calbraith Perry (below) 
(1794-1858) of the United States Navy arrived in Japan. He had
been sent there by U.S. President Millard Fillmore to induce the
Japanese government to establish diplomatic relations with the
United States.

Joseph Paul DiMaggio (November 25, 1914 – March 8, 1999)

Nicknamed "Joltin’ Joe" and "The Yankee Clipper", Joe DiMaggio
was a baseball center fielder who played his entire 13-year career
in Major League Baseball for the New York Yankees. He is perhaps
best known for his 56-game hitting streak (May 15 – July 16, 1941),
a record that still stands. DiMaggio was a three-time Most Valuable
Player Award winner and an All-Star in each of his 13 seasons.

Ronald Wilson Reagan (February 6, 1911 – June 5, 2004)

Ronald Reagan served as the 40th President of the United States
from 1981 to 1989. Prior to the presidency, he was a Hollywood
actor and union leader before serving as the 33rd Governor of
California from 1967 to 1975.

First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton formally declared that she was
a candidate for a U.S. Senate seat from the state of New York on
this day in 2000.

George VI (Albert Frederick Arthur George)  
(December 14, 1895 – February 6, 1952)

Britain’s King George VI died on this day in 1952. His daughter,
Elizabeth II, succeeded him.

George Herman "Babe" Ruth Jr. (February 6, 1895 – August 16, 1948)

Babe Ruth was a professional baseball player whose career in Major League Baseball  spanned 22 seasons, from 1914 through 1935. Nicknamed "The
Bambino" and "The Sultan of Swat", he began his MLB career as a stellar
left-handed pitcher for the Boston Red Sox, but achieved his greatest fame
as a slugging outfielder for the New York Yankees.

Robert Nesta Marley (February 6, 1945 – May 11, 1981)

Bob Marley was a Jamaican singer-songwriter who became an
international musical and cultural icon, blending mostly reggae,
ska and rocksteady in his compositions.

Marley died of skin cancer at Cedars of Lebanon Hospital in Miami
(now University of Miami Hospital), aged 36. The spread of cancer
to his lungs and brain caused his death. His final words to his son
Ziggy were… "Money can’t buy life”.

George C. Wallace was sworn in as governor of Alabama on this day
in 1963.

On this day in 1784, the American Continental ratified a peace treaty
with England ending the Revolutionary War.

On this day in 1943, U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt flew from Miami, FL, to French Morocco where he met with British Prime
Minister Winston Churchill to discuss World War II.  Roosevelt
became the first U.S. President to fly in an airplane while in office.

Marilyn Monroe and Joe DiMaggio were married on this day in
1954. The marriage only lasted nine months.

NBC-TV’s "Today" show premiered on this day in 1952 with host
Dave Garroway.

Today‘s dominance was virtually unchallenged by the other networks until the
late 1980s, when it was overtaken by ABC‘s Good Morning America.

Hamilton was a United States Founding Father, soldier, economist.
political philosopher, one of America’s first constitutional lawyers
and the first United States Secretary of the Treasury.
