‘’THE JAW BREAKER’’ IS DEAD AT 70
Muhammad Ali and Ken Norton during their 1973 fight in San Diego, the first
of their three bouts against one another. Ali would wind up losing a 12-round
decision after Norton broke his jaw early in the fight.

LAS VEGAS (AP) – Former heavyweight champion Ken Norton, who beat
Muhammad Ali and then lost a controversial decision to him in Yankee Stadium,
has died.
His son says he passed away Wednesday at a local care facility. He was 70.
Norton had been in poor health for the last several years after suffering a series
of strokes, a friend of his said.
FORMER BOXING CHAMP DIES AT 75
Emile Alphonse Griffith (February 3, 1938 – July 23, 2013)
(AP) – Emile Griffith, the elegant world champion whose career was
overshadowed by the fatal beating he gave Bennie Paret in a 1962
title bout that darkened all of boxing, died Tuesday.
He died at an extended care facility in Hempstead, N.Y, according
to the International Boxing Hall of Fame.
Griffith struggled with pugilistic dementia and required full-time care
late in life. He was the very first boxer from the U.S. Virgin Islands to
become world champion and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in
1990.

SYLVESTER STALLONE IS 67 TODAY
Stallone is known for his Hollywood action roles, most notably, are the
boxer Rocky Balboa in the Rocky series from 1975 to 2006 and soldier
John Rambo in the series that began in 1982. It was announced on
December 7, 2010 that Stallone was voted into boxing’s Hall of Fame.
