On this day in 1956,  Elvis Presley made his first appearance on the 
Ed Sullivan show "Toast of the Town." He was shot from just the 
waist up during the performance. Presley made a total of three 
appearances on the show.

Elvis loved technology and always took time to check out the cameras on TV and movie sets.

Buddy Holly (Charles Hardin Holley)
(September 7, 1936 – February 3, 1959)

Buddy Holly was a singer, songwriter, and guitarist who along
with his band The Crickets pioneered rock with "That’ll Be the
Day," which topped the Billboard Best Sellers list.

He won a talent contest when he was five years old for singing
"Have You Ever Gone Sailing (Down the River of Memories)."

Rolling Stone ranked him as the thirteenth "Greatest Artist of
All Time." He died in a plane crash less than two years after
his career took off.

demonstrates his 15-inch-long “Sunmobile,” the world’s first solar-powered automobile, at the General Motors Powerama auto show
held in
Chicago, Illinois.


Today, more than a half-century after Cobb debuted the Sunmobile,
a mass-produced solar car has yet to hit the market anywhere in the world.
