George Roger Waters is 74 years old today.

Roger Waters was the Bass player, composer, vocalist, and front man of the
English rock band Pink Floyd, the group known for songs like "Shine On
You Crazy Diamond." He was the chairman of the Cambridge Youth
Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament at age fifteen. Waters helped
compose the soundtrack to the 1970 documentary The Body.

Waters left Pink Floyd in 1985 and began a legal dispute with the remaining
members over their use of the band’s name and material. They settled out
of court in 1987, and nearly eighteen years passed before he performed
with them again. As a member of Pink Floyd, Waters was inducted into
the U.S. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996 and the UK Music Hall of
Fame
in 2005

Roberto Enrique Clemente Walker
(August 18, 1934 – December 31, 1972)

Hall of Fame MLB outfielder Roberto Clemente played for the Pittsburgh
Pirates from 1955 to 1972. He was named National League MVP in 1966
and was a 2-time World Series Champion, winning World Series MVP
honors in 1971. He died tragically in a 1972 plane crash while flying to
Nicaragua to tend to earthquake victims. Clemente would deliver milk
cans in order to help make ends meet while growing up.

for Best Director.

Skylab, America’s first space station, was successfully launched into
an orbit around the earth on this day in 1973. Eleven days later, U.S.
astronauts Charles Conrad, Joseph Kerwin, and Paul Weitz made a
rendezvous with Skylab, repairing a jammed solar panel and also
conducting scientific experiments during their 28-day stay aboard
the space station.

George Walton Lucas Jr. is 74 years old today.

George Lucas began his collegiate career studying anthropology
at Modesto Junior College, then transferred to the University of
Southern California School of Cinematic Arts. He attempted to join
the U.S. Air Force after graduation but they wouldn’t accept him
because of the number of speeding tickets on his record, so
instead he re-enrolled at USC as a graduate student in film
production.
