When Creedence Clearwater Revival released the single "Proud Mary." It
became a major hit peaking at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in March 1969,
the first of five non-consecutive singles to peak at #2 for the group.

Neil Leslie Diamond was born in Brooklyn, New York.
Singer Neil Diamond is considered to be one of the most successful
adult contemporary artists in the history of the Billboard chart. He has
sold over 125 million records and is known for hits like "Kentucky
Woman," "Sweet Caroline" and "America." He became a member of
the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1984 and in 2011, he was inducted
into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.


The instrumental track for this song was recorded first at Gold Star Studios
and took 21 takes. The vocals were recorded next over two sessions at
Columbia with the first session taking place on March 10, which also saw
vocal work on "I’m Waiting for the Day", "God Only Knows" and "I Just
Wasn’t Made for These Times". The final session was around a month
later on April 11.
The released single entered the Billboard chart on July 30 and remained
there for 11 weeks, peaking at number 8 in September 1966. It also peaked
at number 7 on the Cashbox chart and #5 in Record World.
