Charles Hardin Holley – known as Buddy Holly 
(September 7, 1936 – February 3, 1959)  

If you took out a map of the United States and traced
a line beginning at New Orleans and running up the
Mississippi River to Memphis, the tip of your finger
would pass through the very birthplace of rock and
roll—a region where nearly every step in its early
development took place and where nearly every
significant contributor to that development was born.

Writing and performing under the name Buddy Holly,
this Lubbock, Texas, native would have an influence
on rock and roll that would far outlast his tragically
shortened career.

HISTORY

A statement posted on his website said Jimmy Buffett passed
away peacefully Friday night "surrounded by his family, friends,
music and dogs.” A cause of death was not immediately released.

Elvis Costello (Declan Patrick Aloysius MacManus)

Experts in pop and rock music consider Costello to be one of the
most gifted and versatile songwriters of his generation.

On August 25, 1939, The Wizard of Oz, which became one
of the best-loved movies in history, opened in theaters
around the United States.

Nominated for an Academy Award in the Best Picture
category, The Wizard of Oz lost to the Civil War–era
epic Gone With the Wind. The Wizard of Oz won a
Best Song Oscar for “Over the Rainbow,” which
became one of Garland’s signature hits. Garland
won a special award at that year’s Oscar ceremony,
for Best Juvenile Performer.

The 1960s pop duo Paul & Paula, who had a hit
with “Hey Paula.” 

Ray Hildebrand was an American singer that performed
in the 60’s group ‘Paul and Paula’. It has been reported
that Hildebrand passed away at his home in Kansas City,
Missouri last Friday. No cause of death was revealed.
