Jerry Lee Lewis (The Killer) is 81 years old today.
Lewis was expelled from Southwest Bible Institute for playing
what they termed "devil’s music." He played music in Natchez,
Mississippi to make a living. Jerry Lee Lewis has been described
as "rock & roll’s first great wild man and is the last living member
of the Sun Records Million Dollar Quartet (below).
Released in November of 1957, this is one of the best-selling singles in the United States, as well as one of the world’s best-
selling singles of all time.
Deborah Anne "Debby" Boone
Pop singer Debby Boone, whose single "You Light Up My Life" was a #1 hit
has won multiple Grammy Awards for her contributions to contemporary
music and Christian albums. She began touring with her father, singer Pat
Boone at the age of fourteen. Debby pursued a solo career after being
encouraged by record company executive Mike Curb.
George Roger Waters is 73 years old today.
Roger Waters was a bass player, composer, vocalist, front man and co-founder
of the English rock band, Pink Floyd. The group is known for songs like "Shine
On You Crazy Diamond." He was once the chairman of the Cambridge Youth
Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament at age fifteen. His first solo album was
called The Body. Pink Floyd were inducted into the US Rock and Roll Hall of
Fame in 1996.
