Former Arkansas state employee Paula Jones (left) sued President
Bill Clinton for sexual harassment when he was governor, alleging
he exposed himself to her in a hotel room in 1991. The Jones suit,
which went all the way to the Supreme Court, was ultimately
dismissed by a judge on the grounds Jones could not show
damages. While it was on appeal, President Clinton agreed to      
an out-of-court settlement on this day in 1998. He paid $850,000 
without admitting liability.

During World War II on this day in 1942, naval battle of Guadalcanal
began between Japanese and American forces. The battle ended on
February 9, 1943 with the U.S. winning a major victory.

Today is known as Veterans Day. It originated with Armistice Day observances marking the anniversary of the 1918 end of World War I, which became an
official holiday in the 1930s. In 1954, the U.S. Congress
officially turned
Armistice Day into Veterans Day.

On this day in 2001, President George W. Bush signed the USA
PATRIOT Act, an anti-terrorism law drawn up in response to the
9/11 attacks. Its intent, in Bush’s words, is to “enhance the
penalties that will fall on terrorists or anyone who helps them.”

The "Gunfight at the OK Corral" took place in Tombstone, AZ. The
fight was between Wyatt Earp, his two brothers and Doc Holiday
and the Ike Clanton Gang. It occurred around 3pm on the afternoon
of Wednesday 26 October 1881 and only lasted about 30 seconds.

The bodies of, from left to right, Tom McLaury (or McLowry), Frank McLaury (or McLowry) and Billy Clanton. These three members of the 'Clanton Gang' were shot by Wyatt Earp, his brothers Virgil and Morgan and Doc Holiday during the 'Gunfight at OK Corral'  on 26th October 1881, Tombstone,  Arizona.
