FEMALE PRIME MINISTER TOOK OFFICE ON THIS DATE IN 1979
Margaret Hilda Thatcher was the first female Prime Minister of the United
Kingdom. She was in office from 4 May 1979 to 28 November 1990.

THEN AND NOW ~ BOBBY ‘’BLUE’’ BLAND
Blues and soul singer Bobby “Blue” Bland is sometimes referred to as the
“Lion of the Blues” who , along with Sam Cooke, Ray Charles, and Junior
Parker developed the mixed sound of gospel with R&B. Bland was inducted
into the Blues Hall of Fame in 1981, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992,
and received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1997. Bobby
turned 81 on January 27th.

KENT STATE SHOOTINGS ON THIS DATE IN 1970
Ohio National Guard troops opened fire on Kent State University students
protesting the invasion of Cambodia, the escalation of the Vietnam War and
the presence of the guard on campus located in the city of Kent, Ohio. Four
students died and nine were wounded. The incident became an icon for many
of the Baby Boom generation.
