ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE TUBELESS TIRE ON THIS DATE IN 1947
The B.F. Goodrich Company of Akron, Ohio announced, after more three years of engineering , the development of a tubeless tire. After successful testing, Goodrich
won patents for the new tires various features in 1952. Within three years ,the
tubeless tire came standard on most new automobiles.
RIVER EXPLORED ON THIS DATE IN 1792
On the evening of May 11, 1792, American merchant sea Captain Robert
Gray of Boston (above) sailed into the river that he named “Columbia” in
honor of his ship, Columbia Rediviva, becoming the first recorded explorer
to navigate the river.The voyage was eventually used as a basis for
America’s claim on the Pacific Northwest.Gray spent nine days on the
river trading fur pelts before leaving.
Depictions of the private vessel named Columbia Rediviva used to travel the
approximate 13 mile trip up the Columbia River.
