Kyu Sakamoto has the distinction of being the only Japanese artist to ever to 
score a #1 hit internationally. It sold over 13 million copies.

On August 12, 1985, Kyu Sakamoto died in the crash of Japan Airlines
Flight 123, the deadliest single-aircraft accident in history. He was 43.

HIT SURF SONG RELEASED ON THIS DATE IN 1963

Billboard Hot 100 in 1963 (two weeks in July). The song also crossed
to #3 on Billboards’ R&B charts.

Helen Elizabeth Hunt is a actress, film director, and screenwriter who starred
in the NBC-TV sitcom Mad About You (1992-1999), before being cast in the
1997 romantic comedy As Good as it Gets, for which she won the Academy
Award for Best Actress. Some of her other Hollywood credits include Twister
(1996), and Cast Away (2000). Hunt made her directorial debut in 2007 with
Then She Found Me.

Hee Haw was a TV variety show featuring country and humor with fictional rural
Kornfield Kounty as a backdrop. It aired on CBS-TV from 1969–1971 before a 20
year run in local syndication. The show was inspired by Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In.

ERROLL GARNER (JUNE 15, 1921 – JAN. 2, 1977)

Erroll Louis Garner was a jazz pianist and composer known for his swing playing
and ballads. His best-known composition, the ballad "Misty", has become a
jazz standard.  Allmusic.com calls him "one of the most distinctive of all
pianists" and a "brilliant virtuoso.”
