NANCY SINATRA IS 71 TODAY

Singer and actress Nancy Sandra Sinatra is the daughter of singer/actor Frank
Sinatra, and remains best known for her 1966 Signature hit “These Boots Are
Made for Walkin”. Other recordings include “ Sugar Town” in 1966, the 1967
number one "Somethin’ Stupid” (a duet with her father), and the title song from
the 1967 James Bond film You Only Live Twice.

‘’TEXACO STAR THEATER’’ TV DEBUT ON THIS DATE IN 1948

Texaco Star Theater was a comedy-variety show, originally broadcast on
radio from 1938 to 1949. The popular show’s sponsor, Texaco made the  
move to television on June 8, 1948 with host Milton Berle (above). It aired
on NBC till 1956 and is remembered as the show that gave Milton Berle
the nickname "Mr. Television".

RECORD RELEASED ON THIS DATE IN 1963

R&B vocal quintet The Essex was formed in 1961 by Walter Vickers and Rodney
Taylor, a pair of U.S. Marines stationed  in, what is now, Okinawa, Japan; upon
returning stateside to Camp Lejeune, NC, the duo recruited fellow leathernecks 
Anita Humes, Billie Hill, and Rudolph Johnson and recorded a demo tape which
earned them a contract with the Roulette label. "Easier Said Than Done" was
recorded in 20 minutes and went to the top of the Billboard chart in July of
1963, selling a million copies.

JOHNY CASH SHOW DEBUTED ON THIS DATE IN 1969

The Johnny Cash Show was a music variety show hosted by Johnny Cash. The
TV series from Screen Gems ran for 58-episodes from June 7, 1969 to March 31,
1971 on ABC. The show was recorded at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium, then home
of the Gand Ole Opry. It reached No. 17 in the Nielsen ratings in 1970. Cash opened each show, and its regulars included members of his touring troupe, his wife June
Carter Cash, the Carter Family, The Statler Brothers, Carl Perkins, and Johnny’s
backing band the Tennessee Three. The show featured many folk-country musicians such as Bob Dylan, Linda Ronstadt, kristofferson, Merle Haggard, and Tammy
Wynette.
