MARTIN SHEEN TURNED 71 TODAY
Martin Sheen (born Ramón Gerardo Antonio Estévez) is known for his
role in Francis Ford Coppola’s 1979 film Apocalypse Now and the NBC
television series The West Wing from 1999 to 2006. He is considered
one of the best actors who was never nominated for an Academy Award
despite his acclaimed performances.

SINGER GENE MCDANIELS HAS DIED AT 76
(AP) KITTERY, Maine – Gene McDaniels, who recorded the 1961 hit "A Hundred
Pounds of Clay" and later wrote Roberta Flack’s chart-topping single "Feel Like
Makin’ Love," has died. He was 76.
McDaniels died Friday at his home in Kittery after a brief illness, his wife, Karen McDaniels, told The Associated Press on Wednesday.
"A Hundred Pounds of Clay," McDaniels’ first hit, peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard
pop chart in 1961, the same year "Tower of Strength" hit No. 5.
NFL PLAYER TURNED ACTOR DEAD AT 66
(ABC News)-Bubba Smith, the former NFL defensive end and "Police Academy"
actor, was found dead in his Los Angeles home Wednesday at the age of 66.
Ed Winter, spokesman for the Los Angeles County coroner, said he didn’t know
the cause or circumstances surrounding Smith’s death, but that it appeared to
be of natural causes.
NOVELTY SONG RELEASED ON THIS DAY IN 1963
"Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh (A Letter from Camp)" is the Grammy-
winning novelty song based on letters of complaint Allan Sherman
received from his son Robert while attending Camp Champlain in
Westport, New York. The song reached #2 on the Billboard Hot 100
for three weeks beginning August 24, 1963.
