Claudette Colbert (Emilie Chauchoin)

(September 13, 1903-July 30, 1996)


Colbert co-starred with Clark Gable in the film It Happened One Night
(1934) for which she won the Academy Award for Best Actress. She
intended to become a fashion designer before acting on Broadway.

In 1999, the American Film Institute voted Colbert the "12th Greatest
Female American Screen Legend"
in cinema.

TV SERIES DEBUTED ON THIS DAY IN 1954

The television series Lassie aired on CBS until September 12, 1971 and was
in syndication until March 24, 1973.
 Lassie received critical favor at its debut
and won two Emmy Awards in its first years. Both stars Jan Clayton and June
Lockhart
were nominated for Emmys. Campbell’s Soup, was the show’s lifelong
sponsor.

Thomas "Tommy" Rettig and Lassie. Rettig died of a heart
attack on February 15, 1996. He was 54.

                  (November 12, 1931 – September 11, 2014)

Songwriter, dancer, singer,manager, and record producer, Bob
Crewe passed away today in a nursing home in Maine. He was
known for producing, and co-writing with Bob Gaudio, a string of
Top 10 singles for The Four Seasons and equally known for his
hit recordings with The Rays, Diane Renay, Mitch Ryder and the
Detroit Wheels
, Freddy Cannon, Lesley Gore, Oliver, Michael
Jackson
,Bobby Darin, Roberta Flack, and his own The Bob
Crewe Generation.

The Pentagon

The Pentagon, headquarters of the United States Department of Defense, is located
in Arlington County, Virginia.

It was designed by architect George Bergstrom (1876–1955), and built by general contractor John McShain of Philadelphia. Ground was broken for construction
on September 11, 1941, and the building was dedicated on January 15, 1943.

General Brehon Somervell provided the major motive power behind the project,
Colonel Leslie Groves was responsible for overseeing the project for the U.S.
Army.

On September 11, 2001, the 60th anniversary of The Pentagon’s groundbreaking, 
five al-Qaeda affiliated hijackers took control of American Airlines Flight 77, en
route
from Washington Dulles International Airport to Los Angeles International
Airport
, and deliberately crashed the Boeing 757 airliner into the western side
of the Pentagon at 9:37 am EDT as part of the September 11 attacks. All 64
people on the airliner were killed as were 125 people who were in the building.
