JOHN ASTIN IS 86 TODAY


John Allen Astin was born in Baltimore, Maryland.

Best known for his role as Gomez Addams on ABC- TV’s The
Addams Family
(1964 – 1966). He was initially a math major
in college at Washington & Jefferson before transferring to
Johns Hopkins.

Dr. Hook & the Medicine Show appeared on the cover of "Rolling Stone."

Dr. Hook & the Medicine Show, shortened in 1975 to Dr. Hook, was a rock band,
formed around Union City, New Jersey. They enjoyed considerable success in the
1970s with hits including "Sylvia’s Mother", "The Cover of Rolling Stone", "Sharing
the Night Together
", "A Little Bit More" and "When You’re in Love with a Beautiful Woman". In addition to their own material, Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show
performed songs written by the poet Shel Silverstein.

BORN ON THIS DAY IN 1918


Samuel Moore "Sam" Walton (March 29, 1918 – April 5, 1992)

Sam Walton is the founder of Sam’s Club and the Walmart retail chain. He
pioneered the idea of consistently stocked shelves with wide-ranging goods
and products. When young, he delivered newspapers, farmed, and sold
magazines. He later worked at J.C. Penney in Des Moines, Iowa, as a
management trainee. Walton managed his first variety store, which was
part of the Butler Brothers chain, in 1945 when he was only 26.

PATTY DUKE HAS DIED AT 69

"Patty" Duke (December 14, 1946 – March 29, 2016)

Patty Duke, the teen who won an Oscar for The Miracle Worker (1962) and
later played "identical cousins" in her own TV sitcom on ABC, has died. She
passed away early this morning. A representatives statement said the cause
of death was sepsis from a ruptured intestine.
