Clint Eastwood gained fame as an iconic actor in such classic
Western films as
A Fistful of Dollars and The Good, the Bad
and the Ugly
(1967) and as Detective Harry Callahan in the
Dirty Harry franchise beginning in 1971. He later became a
renowned director, receiving the Academy Awards for Best
Director and Best Picture for his films
Unforgiven (1992) and 
Million Dollar Baby (2004).

On this day in 1995, the Oklahoma City bombing was a
domestic terrorist truck bombing on the Alfred P. Murrah
Federal Building
in downtown Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Perpetrated by Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols, the
bombing happened at 9:02 am and killed at least 168 people, 
injured more than 680 others, and destroyed one – third of
the building.

Oklahoma City firefighter Chris Fields holds a baby who was inside the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building when it was hit by a truck bomb on April 19, 1995. The 1-year-old, Angel Baylee Almon, later died in the hospital. She was one of the 168 people killed in the terrorist attack. More than 500 people were injured.

Timothy McVeigh is led from a courthouse in Perry, Oklahoma, after being charged in connection with the bombing. Two years later, he was convicted on 11 counts of murder, conspiracy and using a weapon of mass destruction. He was executed by lethal injection in 2001. His co-conspirator, Terry Nichols, was sentenced to life in prison. Both McVeigh and Nichols were former U.S. Army soldiers associated with the extreme right-wing Patriot Movement. The Patriot Movement rejects the legitimacy of the federal government and law enforcement.

CA, was hit with a massive
earthquake. The original death toll was cited at about 700. Later 
information indicated that the death toll may have been three to
four times the original estimate.
