Burt Freeman Bacharach is 90 years old today. He was born in
Kansas City, Missouri.

Burt Bacharach is a composer, songwriter, record producer, pianist, and
singer who has composed hundreds of popular hit songs from the late
1950s through the 1980s, many in collaboration with popular lyricist Hal
David. A six-time Grammy Award winner and three-time Academy Award 
winner, Bacharach’s songs have been recorded by more than 1,000
different artists. As of 2014, he had written 73 US and 52 UK Top 40 hits
and is considered one of the most important composers of 20th-century
popular music.

Los Angeles policemen (below) in the Rodney King beating trial. A
total of 54 people were killed in 3 days.

Jerome Allen "Jerry" Seinfeld is 64 years old today. He was born in
Brooklyn, New York.

Stand-up comedian, producer, actor, and writer Jerry Seinfeld co-created
and starred in the NBC sitcom Seinfeld, which became one of the most
popular television comedies of all time, winning ten Emmy Awards during
its run which began in 1989 and aired for nine seasons. In 2012, he began
the internet comedy series Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, where he
chats with other comedians. 

Edward Kennedy "Duke" Ellington (April 29, 1899 – May 24, 1974)

One of the jazz worlds most influential figures. He led his famed orchestra
from 1923 until his death. He called his music American Music, not jazz. He
helped compose more than 1,000 original pieces, many of which became
standards. Ellington was called Duke by his friends growing up because
his suave sophistication reminded them of a nobleman.

The world’s worst nuclear disaster to date occurred at Chernobyl, in
Kiev on this day in 1986. Thirty-one people died in the incident and thousands more were exposed to radioactive material.

John Wilkes Booth was killed by the U.S. Federal Cavalry on this day 
in 1865.

On April 14, 1865, actor John Wilkes Booth (above) assassinated President Abraham Lincoln while he was watching the play ‘Our American Cousin’ at Ford Theater in Washington, D.C.

The British established an American colony at Cape Henry, Virginia 
on this day in 1607. It was the first permanent English establishment
in the Western Hemisphere.

On this day in 1937, German planes attacked Guernica, Spain, during
the Spanish Civil War for the Spanish nationalist government. This
raid is considered one of the first to be attacks on a civilian
population by a modern air force.

Lucille Désirée Ball Morton (August 6, 1911 – April 26, 1989)

Lucille Ball was an actress, comedian, model, film-studio executive, and
producer. She was best known as the star of the self-produced sitcoms
I Love Lucy (1951-1967) on CBS, The Lucy–Desi Comedy Hour (1957-1960)
on CBS, The Lucy Show (1962-1968) CBS, Here’s Lucy (1968-1974) CBS,
and Life with Lucy for only one season in 1986 on ABC.

Sir Charles Spencer Chaplin (April 16, 1889 – December 25, 1977)

Comedic silent film icon Charlie Chaplin gained world fame for portraying
his character, The Tramp (1915) and starred in The Great Dictator (1940)
and Modern Times. He had a career that lasted over 75 years, and became
one of the most important people in film history.

On this day in 1996, Britain’s Prince Andrew and his wife, Sarah, the Duchess of York, announced that they were in the process of getting
