Benjamin Berell Ferencz (March 11, 1920 – April 7, 2023)

BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Ben Ferencz, the last living
prosecutor from the Nuremberg trials, who tried Nazis for
genocidal war crimes and was among the first outside
witnesses to document the atrocities of Nazi labor and
concentration camps, has died. He had just turned 103
in March.

Ferencz died Friday evening in Boynton Beach, Florida,
according to St. John’s University law professor John
Barrett, who runs a blog about the Nuremberg trials. The
death also was confirmed by the U.S. Holocaust Museum
in Washington.

"Today the world lost a leader in the quest for justice for
victims of genocide and related crimes," the museum
tweeted.

(CANADIAN PRESS) – VANCOUVER — The family of Vancouver
radio personality Red Robinson says he has died after a brief
illness.

In a statement posted online, Robinson’s family says he passed
away on Saturday, April 1st, shortly after 8 a.m.

Robinson began his radio career in 1954 at Vancouver’s CJOR,
and his website credits him as the first DJ in Canada to play
rock ’n’ roll music on a regular basis.

It says Red jumped to Vancouver CKWX station in 1957, where
he met American singer Buddy Holly and Elvis Presley.

His website says he was elected into the Rock and Roll Hall of
Fame in 1994, the Canadian Broadcast Hall of Fame in 1997
and the Rockabilly Hall of Fame in 2000, retiring from radio
in 2007.

In 1959, Robinson took a job with KGW Radio in Portland, OR,
on the condition that he also host a TV show. He got his wish,
hosting Portland Bandstand on KGW TV. However, because
of American draft laws, he was also required to do a six-month
stint in the US Army at Fort Ord in California.

Eric Patrick Clapton is an English rock and blues guitarist,
singer, and songwriter. He is regarded as one of the most
successful and influential guitarists in rock music. He
ranked second in Rolling Stone‘s list of the "100 Greatest
Guitarists of All Tim’‘ and fourth in Gibson‘s "Top 50
Guitarists of All Time". He was also named number five
in Time magazine’s list of "The 10 Best Electric Guitar
Players" in 2009. Clapton is 78 years old today.

The strongest earthquake in American history, measuring 9.2
on the Richter scale, slimmed southern Alaska, creating a
deadly tsunami. Some 131 people were killed and thousands
injured on this day in 1964.

The massive earthquake had its epicenter about 12 miles north
of Prince William Sound. Approximately 300,000 square miles
of U.S., Canadian, and international territory were affected.

Anchorage, Alaska’s largest city, sustained the most property
damage, with about 30 blocks of dwellings and commercial
buildings damaged or destroyed in the downtown area. Fifteen
people were killed or fatally injured as a direct result of the
three-minute quake, and then the ensuing tsunami killed
another 110 people.
