On July 6, 1994, the movie Forrest Gump opened in U.S. theaters. A
huge box-office success, the film starred Tom Hanks in the title role
of Forrest, a good-hearted man with a low I.Q. who winds up at the
center of key cultural and historical events of the second half of the
20th century.

Forrest Gump was based on a 1986 novel of the same name by
Winston Groom, who (like his main character) grew up in Alabama
and served in the Army during Vietnam.

Ned Thomas Beatty (July 6, 1937 – June 13, 2021)

(AP) – Ned Beatty, the indelible character actor whose first film
role as a genial vacationer brutally raped by a backwoodsman
in 1972′s “Deliverance” launched him on a long, prolific and accomplished career, has died.

Beatty’s manager, Deborah Miller, said Beatty died Sunday of
natural causes at his home in Los Angeles surrounded by
friends and loved ones.

Film actor John Wayne, famous for starring in countless westerns,
died at age 72 after battling cancer for more than a decade. The
American Film Institute selected Wayne as one of the greatest male
stars of classic American cinema.
