On this day in 1868, President Andrew Johnson was acquitted, by
one vote, of all charges in his impeachment trial.

John Wayne (Marion Robert Morrison)
(May 26, 1907 – June 11, 1979)

Nicknamed "The Duke," John Wayne played a hero in action
films and westerns and received an Academy Award for Best
Actor for his starring role in True Grit in 1969. His voice, and
acting style made him a major box office draw for thirty years.

Michael Jackson and Lisa Marie Presley were married in the
Dominican Republic on this day in 1994. They were divorced
in January of 1996.

Hank Williams Jr. (Randall Hank Williams) is 69 today.  

Country superstar Hank Williams Jr. is known for the hit "All
My Rowdy Friends Are Coming Over Tonight," which served
as the opening theme for Monday Night Football from 1989
to 2011. He’s the son of country legend Hank Williams. He
followed in the footsteps of his late father at a young age
and started singing when he was eight years old.

Samuel F.B. Morse formally opened America’s first telegraph line on
this day in 1844. The first message was sent from Washington, DC,
to Baltimore, MD. The message was "What hath God wrought?"

Samuel Finley Breese Morse (April 27, 1791 – April 2, 1872)

On this day in 1994, the four men convicted of bombing the New
York’s World Trade Center were each sentenced to 240 years in
prison.

Queen Victoria of England was born in London on
this day in 1819.

After 14 years of construction the Brooklyn Bridge was opened to
traffic on this day in 1883.

Bob Dylan (Robert Allen Zimmerman)

Legendary singer-songwriter Bob Dylan revolutionized folk music in the
1960’s with albums such as The Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan, Highway 61
Revisited, and Blonde on Blonde and songs such as "The Times They
Are a-Changin’," "Like a Rolling Stone," and "Positively 4th Street."

On October 13, 2016 the Nobel Prize committee announced it had awarded Bob Dylan the Nobel Prize in Literature "for having created
new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition".

Nole Floyd "Nokie" Edwards (May 9, 1935 – March 12, 2018)

Nokie Edwards is a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
who was primarily a guitarist, best known for his work with The
Ventures and was known in Japan as the King of Guitars. He was
also an actor, who made a brief appearance in Deadwood, a TV
Western drama series on HBO.    

Edwards died in Yuma, Arizona following complications from

the Portland, Oregon garage-band classic version, “Louie, Louie”.

Based on outcry from parents who bought into what may have started as an
idle rumor, the FBI launched a formal investigation in 1964 into the supposedly pornographic lyrics of the song “Louie, Louie.” That investigation finally
neared its conclusion on this day in 1965, when the FBI Laboratory declared
the lyrics of “Louie Louie” to be officially unintelligible.

No one will ever know who started the rumor that “Louie Louie” was dirty. As written by Richard Berry in 1955, the lyrics revolve around a sailor from the Caribbean lamenting to a bartender named Louie about missing his far-away
love. As recorded in poor conditions and in a single take by The Kingsmen
in 1963.

Henry Jaynes Fonda (May 16, 1905 – August 12, 1982)

Henry Fonda was a film and stage actor with a career spanning
five decades. Fonda made his mark early as a Broadway actor.

Singer, dancer, actor and comedian Sammy Davis, JR. 
was noted for his impressions of actors, musicians and
other celebrities. At the age of three, Davis began his
career in vaudeville with his father, Sammy Davis Sr.
and the Will Mastin Trio.

James Maury Henson  (September 24, 1936 – May 16, 1990)

Jim Henson was a puppeteer, artist, cartoonist, inventor, screenwriter,
and filmmaker who achieved international fame as the creator of the
Muppets. He died of toxic shock syndrome at age 53.
