parties candidates for vice president and president, respectively, at the
Democratic National Convention in 1972. Due to health issues and other
personal problems, Eagleton withdrew as McGovern’s running mate on

English-born author J.K. Rowling wrote the bestselling Harry Potter fantasy
books. Her first novel in the series, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone
(1997), was followed by six equally popular installments, all of which were
made into feature films. She began writing as a child, creating stories about
a rabbit family for her younger sister’s enjoyment.

Bonney was an outlaw who was shot and killed by Sheriff Pat Garrett in Fort Sumner
on this day in 1881.

Richard Benjamin Speck (December 6, 1941 – December 5, 1991)

Speck was a mass murderer who systematically tortured, raped, and murdered
eight student nurses from South Chicago Community Hospital on this day in
1966.  He was sentenced to death, but the sentence was later overturned due
to issues with jury selection at his trial. Speck died of a heart attack after serving
25 years in prison.

and Midge Ure to raise funds for relief of the ongoing
Ethiopian famine. The event was held simultaneously at
the Wembley Stadium in London (UK) and the John F.
Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia (USA) on July 13, 1985
and was broadcasted internationally via satellite television.
