The Railroad Hour was a radio series of musical dramas and comedies broadcast
from the late 1940s to the mid-1950s. The show was sponsored by the Association
of American Railroads and starred singer-actor Gordon MacRae. Marvin Miller was
the announcer of the series that began on ABC October 4, 1948 as a 45-minute
program, and was reduced to 30 minutes on April 25, 1949, continuing until
September 26, 1949. It then moved to NBC for a run from October 3, 1949, until
June 21, 1954. On both networks it aired Monday evenings at 8pm(et).The theme
song for the program was “I’ve Been Working on the Railroad”.

CAREER STARTING RECORD RELEASED ON THIS DATE IN 1955

JOHN GOODMAN IS 59 YEARS OLD TODAY

John Stephen Goodman is a film, television, and stage actor. He is best known
for his role as Dan Conner on the ABC-TV series Roseanne (1988–1997) for
which he won a Best Actor Golden Globe award in 1993. Goodman is also noted
for appearances in the films of the Coen brothers, with prominent roles in Raising
Arizona
(1987) Barton Fink (1991) The Big Lebowski (1998) and O Brother Where
Art Thou?
(2000). Goodman has also done voice work for many films by Disney. He
has made more than 50 films and has won two American Comedy Awards.

The Blues Brothers is a musical comedy film directed by John Landis who In
1978, directed his first film for Universal Studios,National Lampoon’s Animal
House
. The Blues Brothers starred John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd  and
featured musical numbers by R&B and soul signers James Brown, Cab
Calloway,Aretha Franklin, and Ray Charles.The movie received  generally
good reviews and earned just under $5 million in its opening  weekend and
went on to gross $115.2 million worldwide.
