On this day in 1834, Cyrus McCormick patented the first practical mechanical reaper for farming. His invention allowed farmers to
more than double their crop size.

On this day in 1982, a federal jury found John W. Hinckley Jr. not guilty of attempting to assassinate the president because he was legally insane at
the time he shot President Reagan and three others on March 30, 1981.

Brian Douglas Wilson was born in Inglewood, California.

Brian Wilson co-wrote over twenty-five top forty hits with the Beach Boys,
among the songs, "Good Vibrations" and "Surfin’ USA." He worked as a
producer and arranger for the band, but suffered from drug addiction
and mental health issues later.

Alexandrina Victoria (May 24,1819 – January 22, 1901)  

On this day in 1837,Queen Victoria ascended the British throne
following the death of her uncle, King William IV.  Her reign of
63 years and seven months is known as the Victorian era and
was longer than that of any of her predecessors.

The emancipation of slaves was proclaimed in Texas on this day
in 1865. It is the oldest known celebrating commemorating the
ending of slavery in the country.

Paula Julie Abdul is 55 years young today.

Paula Abdul was inspired to perform by dancer Gene Kelly. She started her
career as an LA Lakers cheerleader and then became a  choreographer. She
won the Lifetime Achievement Award for choreography at The Carnival:
Choreographer’s Ball in 2013.
