Two guitar legends from left: James Burton and Glen Campbell are
seen during a 1963 recording session. They were both members of
a group of L.A. studio musicians in the 1960’s dubbed, The Wrecking
Crew. Burton will turn 78 August 21. We lost Glen Campbell Tuesday
to Alzheimer’s Disease.
Smokey Bear’s debut poster (above) was released on August 9, 1944, which is
considered his birthday. Overseen by the Cooperative Forest Fire Prevention
Campaign, the first poster was illustrated by Albert Staehle. That same year,
Forest Service worker Rudy Wendelin became the full-time campaign artist;
he was considered Smokey Bear’s "manager" until he retired in 1973.

R&B and pop performer Whitney Houston became the most
awarded female singer in history for hits such as "Hold Me"
from her record-breaking album, Whitney Houston. She grew
up in a musical family with cousin Dionne Warwick and her
godmother Aretha Franklin. She created the soundtrack for
and starred in the 1992 film The Bodyguard alongside Kevin
Costner.

singer-songwriter and guitarist Jerry Garcia is best known for his work
as the lead guitarist and as a vocalist with the band the Grateful Dead.
Glen Travis Campbell (April 22, 1936 – August 8, 2017)
Campbell died of Alzheimer’s disease in Nashville, Tennessee today, six
years after his diagnosis.

Famous method actor Dustin Hoffman won the Academy Award for Best
Actor for Kramer vs. Kramer in 1979 and Rain Man in 1988. He had his

He began his acting career at the Pasadena Playhouse with his roommate
and fellow actor Gene Hackman.
