CAMILLE BOHANNON

On this day in 1994, Jeffrey Dahmer, a convicted serial killer,
was clubbed to death in a Wisconsin prison by a fellow inmate.

The Grand Ole Opry made its radio debut on station WSM on this day
in 1925.

The WSM broadcast Tower in Brentwood, TN.

George D. Hay, original announcer of WSM’s "Barn
Dance" and later "The Grand Ole Opry," known to
his listeners as "The Solemn Old Judge."

Uncle Jimmy Thompson (80) was the first performer on a new
show called "The WSM Barn Dance."

On this day in 1973, Rose Mary Woods, told a federal court she was 
responsible for the 18-1/2 minute gap in a key Watergate tape. She demonstrates the stretch (above) that supposedly led to the deletion
on the tape. Woods was Nixon‘s personal secretary from his days in
Congress in 1951, through the end of his political career.

The motion picture "Casablanca" had its world premiere at the Hollywood Theater in New York City on this day in 1942.

The funeral procession for President John F. Kennedy is pictured 
crossing the bridge to Arlington National Cemetery in  Arlington, VA.

On this day in 1963, the body of President John F. Kennedy was laid
to rest at Arlington National Cemetery. The funeral was attended by
heads of state and representatives from more than 100 countries,
with untold millions more watching on television.

President Kennedy’s widow, Jacqueline, along with brother’s Bob
and Ted Kennedy together lit the “eternal flame”(above) which will
forever burn at the gravesite of JFK.

During the Revolutionary War on this day in 1783, British forces
evacuated New York, their last military position in the U.S. It was
also George Washington’s Triumphal Entry in New York City, as
depicted in the above painting. The events marked the cessation 
of hostilities between Great Britain and its former colonies.

Slobodan Milošević (August 20, 1941 – March 11, 2006) 

The United Nations war crimes tribunal in The Hague issued a sweeping
new indictment on this day in 2001 of the former Yugoslav president,
Slobodan Milosevic, charging him with genocide in connection with the
war in Bosnia in 1992-95.

In its third and gravest indictment, the tribunal charged that Milosevic
”participated in a joint criminal enterprise, the purpose of which was
the forcible and permanent removal of the majority of non-Serbs from
large areas of the Republic of Bosnia-Herzegovina.”

The first edition of "Life" was published and hit the newsstands on
this day in 1936. It featured a cover photo of the Fort Peck Dam by
Margaret Burke-White. The 466,000 print run immediately sold out.
  
Photographs published by Life magazine became some of the most recognizable images of U.S. and world events in the 20th century.
