The Washington Monument was officially dedicated in Washington,
DC. on this day in 1885. It opened to the public in 1889.

was the tallest building in the world at the time of
its completion in 1884, standing 555 feet, 5.125
inches.

NOTE:  The Washington Monument is closed until spring 2019. The National Park Service is modernizing the elevator to increase long

‘’THE KING OF ROADS” HAS A BIRTHDAY

The Historic Columbia River Highway (U.S. Route 30) turned 100-years-old
Yesterday, June 7th. The Highway runs through the Columbia River Gorge 
from Troutdale to The Dalles. It was built in segments and dedicated in 1916
as the nation’s first scenic highway. It functioned as the main road into the
city of Portland from the east until opening of I-84 in the 1960s. The Gorge
highway remains one of America’s most iconic roads.
