"The Boston Massacre" took place on this day in 1770 when British troops fired on a crowd in Boston killing five people. Two British
troops were later convicted of manslaughter.

The senseless killing of a black man, Crispus Attucks (above) and 
his compatriots spurred one of the most significant revolutions in modern history.

Winston Churchill delivered his "Iron Curtain Speech" on this day in 1946. He warned of the Soviet Unions growing influence in Eastern
Europe after WW 2.

Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin died on this day in 1952. He had been
in power for 29 years.

John Adam Belushi (January 24, 1949 – March 5, 1982)

The comedians death was investigated by forensic pathologist Michael Baden,
among others, and, while the findings were disputed, it was officially ruled
a drug-related accident.

On this day in 1877, Rutherford B. Hayes was declared the winner of
the 1876 presidential election by the U.S. Congress. Samuel J. Tilden(below) however, had won the popular vote on November 7,
1876.

Mikhail Sergeyevich Gorbachev is 87 years old today.

Mikhail Gorbachev was the eighth and last leader of the Soviet Union,
having been General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet
Union from 1985 until 1991.

The motion picture King Kong had its world premiere in New
York on this day in 1933.

The Sound of Music is a 1965 American musical drama film produced and
directed by Robert Wise, and starring Julie Andrews and Christopher
Plummer premiered on this day in 1965 in  New York City. The film is an
adaptation of the 1959 stage musical of the same name, composed by
Richard Rodgers with lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II.

the Philippines after 20 years of rule following a tainted election.

On this day in 1836, Samuel Colt received U.S. Patent No. 138
(later 9430X) for a "revolving-cylinder pistol." It was his first
patent.

George Harrison (February 25, 1943-November 29, 2001)

George Harrison achieved international fame as the lead guitarist of
the Beatles, the best-selling band in history. He is often referred to
as "the quiet Beatle".

ROSS SIMPSON

The "St. Valentine’s Day Massacre" took place in Chicago, IL. on
this day in 1929.  Seven gangsters who were rivals of Al Capone
(below) were killed.

On this day in 1989, Iran’s Ayatollah Khomeini called on Muslims
to kill author Salman Rushdie (below).

Salman Rushdie’s fourth novel, The Satanic Verses (1988), was
the center of a major controversy, provoking protests from
Muslims in several countries.

On this day in 2002, former Yugoslav president Slobodan Milosevic began his defense against war crimes charges.

Dolly died on this day in 2003.

Dolly the Sheep is now a stuffed specimen, standing inside a glass
showcase at the National Museum in Edinburgh, Scotland.

In Flemington, New Jersey on this day in 1935, a jury found Bruno Richard Hauptmann (center) guilty of the kidnapping and death of
the infant son of Charles and Anne Lindbergh. Hauptmann was
later executed for the crimes.

During World War II, Allied aircraft began bombing the German city
of Dresden on this day in 1945.

Dresden WW2 bombing raids killed 25,000 people.

On this day in 1984, Konstantin Chernenko was chosen to be
general secretary of the Soviet Communist Party’s Central
Committee, succeeding the late Yuri Andropov.

English singer-songwriter, and record producer Peter Brian Gabriel
is 68 years old today.

Gabriel rose to fame as the original lead singer and flautist of the progressive
rock band Genesis. After leaving Genesis in 1975, he launched a successful 
solo career with "Solsbury Hill" as his first single.

Waylon Arnold Jennings (June 15, 1937 – February 13, 2002)

Waylon Jennings played bass guitar for his friend Buddy Holly during the
Winter Tour in 1959. The above picture was taken the night before Buddy
died along with Richie Valens and J.P. ( Big Bopper) Richardson when their
plane crashed near Clear Lake, Iowa. Tommy Allsup died January 11, 2017
after complications from hernia surgery at age 85. He was the last surviving
member of Buddy Holly’s ‘’touring’’ Crickets on the Winter Dance Party.
