On this day in 1981, Bobby Sands (above) who was a member
of the
Provisional Irish Republican Army
began a hunger strike
while imprisoned at
HM Prison Maze
after being sentenced for
firearms
 possession. He eventually died May 5, 1981 at age 27.

DC. on this day in 1885. It opened to the public in 1889.

while in flight.

In West Warwick, RI on this day in 2003, 100 people were killed
and more than 230 were injured when fire destroyed the nightclub,
The Station. The fire started with sparks from a pyrotechnic display
being used by Jack Russel’s Great White. Ty Longley, guitarist for
