RECORDED ON THIS DATE IN 1965

There are conflicting accounts of how the”Yesterday” was recorded, the most
quoted one being that McCartney recorded the song by himself, without bothering
to involve the other band members. Alternative sources, however, state that Paul McCartney and the other Beatles tried a variety of instruments, including drums
and an organ, and that George Martin later persuaded them to allow McCartney
to play his Epiphone acoustic guitar (above), later on editing-in a string quartet
for backup. Regardless, none of the other band members were included in the
final recording.

Gene Barry was a stage, screen, and television actor, best known for his
portrayal of the title character in the NBC- TV series Bat Masterson airing
from 1958 to1961. One of his many film roles included Dr. Clayton Forrester
in H. G. Wells’s The War of the Worlds (1953).

RALPH EDWARDS (JUNE 13, 1913–NOV. 16, 2005)

Ralph Edwards was a radio and television host and producer. His
broadcasting began in Oakland, California, working at KROW-AM
while still in high school. After graduating from high school in 1931,
Edwards worked his way through college at the University of California,
Berkley. After some part time announcing jobs, he got his big break in
1938 with a full time job for CBS on WABC (now WCBS-AM). In 1940,
Edwards created and hosted the NBC-TV game show Truth or
Consequences
