Robert James “Bob” Keeshan was a TV producer and actor. He is best
remembered as the title character of the children’s TV program Captain
Kangaroo, which became an icon for millions of kid’s during its 30-year
run from 1955 to 1984 on NBC. Keeshan was also the original “Clarabell
the Clown” on the Howdy Doody show from 1947 to 1960 on NBC.

CAPTAIN VIDEO DEBUTED ON THIS DATE IN 1949

Captain Video and His Video Rangers was a low-budget science fiction TV
series. It was broadcast on the DuMont Television Network, and was the first
series of its kind on American television. It aired between June 27, 1949 and
April 1, 1955 and starred Richard Coogan (below) in the lead role.

Studios, that was broadcast by NBC from 1971-1977. The theme for the
show was composed by Henry Mancini.
