Celebrating the first day of the month of May began as an ancient
Northern Hemisphere spring festival. It is usually a public holiday
and also a traditional holiday in many cultures. The celebration of 
May Day coincides with International Workers’ Day in countries 
with May Day festivities that include dancing and singing.

Jack Harold Paar
(May 1, 1918 – January 27, 2004)

Jack Paar hosted The Tonight Show on NBC from 1957
to 1962. He paved the way for Johnny Carson and others
before leaving television while still in his prime.
