“Wild Bill” Hickok (James Butler Hickok)
         (May 27, 1837 – August 2, 1876)

Hickok was a folk character of the Old West. Some of his reported exploits
were fictionalized, but his skills as a gunfighter and gambler, along with his
reputation as a lawman, provided the basis for his enduring fame as man
who brought law and order Kansas towns. He was killed while playing poker,
and his last hand has become known as the “Dead Man’s Hand”. In 1979,
Hickok was inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame.
