Steve “Snapper” Jones (Stephen Howard Jones)
(October 17, 1942 – November 25, 2017)

Jones, was an ABA and NBA player, who played with the Portland Trail Blazers from 1975 to 1976. He later became known for his local work
as a television analyst for the Blazers. He was the brother of Nick Jones, another former ABA and NBA player.

Rance Howard (November 17, 1928 – November 25, 2017)

Actor Rance Howard, the father of director Ron Howard, died Saturday. The elder
Howard was also the father of actor Clint Howard and grandfather of actresses
Bryce Dallas Howard and Paige Howard.

Rance Howard’s acting career spanned several decades since the 1950s. He
appeared in several of Ron Howard’s films, including "Apollo 13," "A Beautiful
Mind," "Splash," "How the Grinch Stole Christmas," "Parenthood" and "Grand

On this day in 1986, President Ronald Reagan and Attorney Gen.
Edwin Meese revealed that profits from secret arms sales to Iran
had been diverted to rebels in Nicaragua. The National Security
Advisor John Poindexter resigned and Oliver North was fired.

During the Revolutionary War on this day in 1783, the British
evacuated New York. It was their last military position in the 
United States.

A group of fishermen from Florida spotted Elián Gonzales off the
coast of Fort Lauderdale. He was completely alone, floating in an
inner tube. He was rescued on this day in 1999.

The boat that Elian and his mother, and 10 other people had been traveling on to the United States from Cuba had been ripped apart
in the rough seas, and he was one of the only survivors.
