Jefferson Davis died in New Orleans on this day in 1889. He was the
first and only president of the Confederate States of America.
It was rock ‘n’ roll’s darkest day, Saturday December 6, 1969,
when the Rolling Stones decided to play a ‘free’ concert at the
abandoned Altamont Speedway some 60 miles east of San
Francisco. Four people ended up dead.
America’s first attempt at putting a satellite into orbit failed when the satellite blew up on the launch pad at Cape Canaveral, FL. on this
day in 1957.

one of the foremost exponents of cool jazz. He wrote a number of
jazz standards, including "In Your Own Sweet Way" and "The Duke”.
