On this day in 1876, Lt. Col. Custer and the 210 men of U.S. 7th
Cavalry were killed by Sioux and Cheyenne Indians at Little Big
Horn in Montana. The event is known as "Custer’s Last Stand."

Jacques-Yves Cousteau (June 11, 1910 – June 25, 1997) 

Jacques Cousteau was a French naval officer, explorer,
conservationist, filmmaker, scientist, photographer,
author and researcher who studied the sea and all
forms of life in water. He co-developed the Aqua-lung,
pioneered marine conservation. Jacques-Yves Cousteau
died of a heart attack on 25 June 1997 in Paris, two weeks
after his 87th birthday.

chief of staff H.R. Haldeman discussed a plan to use the CIA to
obstruct the FBI’s Watergate investigation. A tape recording of this meeting between the two men in the Oval Office became known as
the “Smoking Gun” tape.

The War of 1812 began as the U.S. declared war against Great Britain

numerous other disputes between the two countries.

the band Wings and embarked upon a solo career. He has earned
21 Grammy Awards across his career.

was convicted on 15 counts of murder and conspiracy for his role
in the 1995 terrorist bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal
Building in Oklahoma City.

this day in 1953.

Queen Elizabeth II (Elizabeth Alexandra Mary) turned 92 in April.

On this day in 1979, Pope John Paul II arrived in his native Poland on
the first visit by a pope to a Communist country. The Pope is shown
