BUD COLLYER (JUNE 18, 1908–SEPT. 8, 1969)
Bud Collyer was a radio actor/announcer who became one of the nation’s
first major television game show stars. He is best remembered for his work
as the voice of Superman/Clark Kent in three media: radio, film and television.
Collyer’s best-remembered radio role arrived in early 1940: the title role in The Adventures of Superman on the Mutual Broadcasting System.
In 1956, Collyer became equally, if not more, familiar as the host of a
new Goodson-Todman production, To Tell The Truth, on CBS-TV.
Bud Collyer was host of Beat The Clock which ran on CBS from 1950
to 1958 and ABC from 1958-1961.
WAR DECLARED ON THIS DATE IN 1812
The war began as the U.S. declared war against Great Britain. The conflictÂ
was over trade restrictions. The two countries ultimately signed the TreatyÂ
of Ghent on December 24, 1814. News of the peace treaty took two months
to reach the U.S.,during which fighting continued until February 18,1815.TheÂ
war opened a long era of peaceful relations between the United States and Â
the British Empire.Â

PAUL MCCARTNEY TURNED 69 TODAY
Sir James Paul McCartney,is an English musician, singer-songwriter and
composer. Formerly of The Beatles (1960-1970) and Wings (1971-1981). He
is the most commercially successful songwriter in the history of popular music,
according to Guinness World Records.
McCartney gained worldwide fame as a member of The Beatles,
alongside George Harrison, Ringo Starr, and John Lennon.
