Eva Perón was the wife of Argentine President Juan Perón (1895–1974) and
First Lady of Argentina from 1946 until her death from cancer in 1952. She
was 33.

George Bernard Shaw (July 26, 1856 – November 2, 1950) 

Shaw was an Irish playwright, critic, polemicist, and political
activist. His influence on Western theatre, culture and politics
extended from the 1880s to his death and beyond. He wrote
more than sixty plays, including major works such as Man
and Superman (1902), Pygmalion (1912) and Saint Joan
(1923).

Sir Michael Philip Jagger is 75 today.

Mick Jagger is one of the most influential figures in the history of rock
and roll as frontman of the Rolling Stones, he was inducted into the Rock
and Roll Hall of Fame with the Stones in 1989. He met future Rolling
Stones guitarist Keith Richards in primary school.

Louise Joy Brown, the first test-tube baby, was born in Oldham,
England on this day in 1978. She had been conceived through
in-vitro fertilization.

William Ben Hogan (August 13, 1912 – July 25, 1997)

Professional golfer Ben Hogan is generally considered to be one of the
greatest players in the history of the game. He is one of only five golfers
to have won all four major championships. Hogan died in Fort Worth,
Texas on July 25, 1997 at the age of 84, and is interred at Greenwood
Memorial Park there.

On this day in 1975, "A Chorus Line" debuted at the Shubert
Theatre on Broadway. The show closed in 1990 after 6,137
performances.

On this day in 1933, aviator Wiley Post ended his around-the-world
flight. He had traveled 15,596 miles in 7 days, 18 hours and 45
minutes.

John Herbert Dillinger (June 22, 1903 – July 22, 1934)

John Dillinger was an American gangster in the Depression-era
who was shot and killed by the special agents on July 22, 1934
at approximately 10:40 p.m, according to a New York Times
report the next day. His death came only two months after the
deaths of fellow notorious criminals Bonnie and Clyde.

A crowd formed at Chicago’s Biograph Theater shortly after Dillinger
was killed there by FBI agents.

In northern Iraq on this day in 2003, Saddam Hussein’s sons Odai
and Qusai died after a gunfight with U.S. forces.

     
The September 11 commission’s final report was released on this
day in 2004. The 575-page report concluded that hijackers exploited "deep institutional failings within our government." The report was released to White House officials the day before.

Walter Frederick Morrison  (January 16, 1920 – February 9, 2010)

Inventor and entrepreneur Walter ”Fred” Morrison introduced the Frisbee, as
we know it today, on this day in 1957. It was originally called the Flyin-Saucer.

William Frisbie opened the Frisbie Pie Company in 1871 in
Bridgeport, Connecticut. Students from nearby universities
discovered that the empty pie tins (above) could be tossed
and caught, providing endless hours of game and sport.

CAMILLE BOHANNON

The first major battle of the U.S. Civil War began on this day in
1861. It was the Battle of Bull Run at Manassas Junction, VA. The Confederates won the battle.

The "Monkey Trial" ended in Dayton, TN. on this day in 1925. John
T. Scopes was convicted and fined $100 for violating the state law
on teaching Darwin’s theory of evolution. The conviction was later
overturned on a legal technicality because the judge had set the
fine instead of the jury.
