Hattie Ophelia Wyatt Caraway (February 1, 1878 – December 21, 1950)

Hattie W. Caraway became the first woman elected to the U.S. Senate
when Arkansas Governor Harvey Parnell appointed Caraway to fill
her late husband Thaddeus’ seat; her appointment was formally confirmed by a special election held on this day in 1932.

On this day in 1971, the television sitcom "All In the Family" debuted
on CBS-TV. It is often regarded as one of the greatest TV series of
all time. It soon became the most watched show during summer
reruns and afterwards ranked number one in the yearly Neilsen
ratings from 1971 to 1976. TV Guide ranked “All in the Family” 
as the fourth-greatest show of all time. The final original show
was April 8, 1979.

On this day in 1951, "I Love Lucy" premiered on CBS-TV. It ran
until May 6, 1957 with a total of 180 (including the ‘lost’ original
pilot and Christmas episode) half-hour episodes spanning 6 
seasons. “I Love Lucy” became the most watched show in
the United States in four of its six seasons, and was the first
to end its run at the top of the Nielsen ratings. In 2012, “I Love
Lucy” was voted the ‘Best TV Show of All Time’ in a survey
conducted by ABC News
and People Magazine.

Charlotte Rae (Lubotsky)  (April 22, 1926 – August 5, 2018)

(Fox  News) – Charlotte Rae, the Emmy and Tony-nominated actress who entertained TV audiences as Mrs. Garrett on "The Facts of Life" and
"Different Strokes,"

The actress passed away Sunday in her home in Los Angeles, surrounded
by family, according to her publicist, who did not provide a cause of death.

Rae was best known for her role as beloved housemother Edna Garrett,
who first appeared on "Diff’rent Strokes" in 1978 before earning her own
spinoff, "The Facts of Life," the following year.
