Louise Joy Brown, the first test-tube baby, was born in Oldham,
England on this day in 1978. She had been conceived through
in-vitro fertilization.

William Ben Hogan (August 13, 1912 – July 25, 1997)

Professional golfer Ben Hogan is generally considered to be one of the
greatest players in the history of the game. He is one of only five golfers
to have won all four major championships. Hogan died in Fort Worth,
Texas on July 25, 1997 at the age of 84, and is interred at Greenwood
Memorial Park there.

On this day in 1975, "A Chorus Line" debuted at the Shubert
Theatre on Broadway. The show closed in 1990 after 6,137
performances.

CAMILLE BOHANNON

In California on this day in 1937, the Golden Gate Bridge was opened
to pedestrian traffic. The bridge connected San Francisco and Marin County.

In The Hague, Netherlands on this day in 1999, a war crimes tribunal indicted Slobodan Milosevic along with four others for atrocities in Kosovo. It was the first time that a sitting head of state had been
charged with such a crime. He was found dead at age 64 from an apparent heart attack in his prison cell on March 11, 2006.

The German battleship Bismarck was sunk by British naval and air
forces on this day in 1941. A total of 2,300 people were killed.

was paralyzed after being thrown from his horse during a jumping
event.

On this day in 1984, Marvin Gaye, the Grammy-winning
singer who topped the soul charts with such classics as
“I Heard It Through the Grapevine,” was shot twice in the
chest and killed by his minister father. The Rev. Marvin
Gaye Sr. picked up a handgun during a family dispute
over an “insurance matter”. The singers death was one
day short of his 45th birthday.

Marvin Gaye (Marvin Pentz Gay Jr.)  (April 2, 1939 – April 1, 1984)

Jessica Dawn Lynch is a former U.S. Army soldier who was serving as a unit
supply specialist with the 507th Maintenance Company when her convoy was ambushed by Iraqi forces during the Battle of Nasiriyah. Lynch was seriously injured. Her subsequent recovery by U.S. Special Operations Forces on April
1, 2003 received considerable media coverage; it was the first successful
rescue of an American prisoner of war since World War II and the first ever
of a woman.

The "St. Valentine’s Day Massacre" took place in Chicago, IL. on
this day in 1929.  Seven gangsters who were rivals of Al Capone
(below) were killed.

On this day in 1989, Iran’s Ayatollah Khomeini called on Muslims
to kill author Salman Rushdie (below).

Salman Rushdie’s fourth novel, The Satanic Verses (1988), was
the center of a major controversy, provoking protests from
Muslims in several countries.

On this day in 2002, former Yugoslav president Slobodan Milosevic began his defense against war crimes charges.

Dolly died on this day in 2003.

showcase at the National Museum in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Former Nazi official Adolf Eichmann was sentenced to death in Jerusalem by an Israeli court on this  day in 1961. He had been
tried on charges for organizing the deportation of Jews to
concentration camps.

A single-engine plane carrying U.S. Army Major Glenn Miller (above) disappeared in thick fog over the English Channel during a flight to
Paris.

On this day in 1791, the first ten amendments to the Constitution,
known as the Bill of Rights, went into effect following ratification
by the state of Virginia.

On this day in 1890, Sioux Indian Chief Sitting Bull and 11 other
tribe members were killed in Grand River, SD, during an incident
with Indian police working for the U.S. government.

Walter Elias "Walt" Disney died in Los Angeles on this day in 1966.

The movie "Gone With the Wind," produced by David O. Selznick
based on the novel by Margaret Mitchell, premiered at Loew’s
Grand Theater in Atlanta on this day in 1939. The epic film starred  
Vivien Leigh and Clark Gable.
