The Beirut barracks bombing was a terrorist attack that occurred on 
this day in 1983, in Beirut, Lebanon, during the Lebanese Civil War. It
involved two truck bombs striking buildings housing Multinational
Force in Lebanon (MNF) peacekeepers, specifically against United
States and French service members, killing 241 U.S. and 58 French peacekeepers, 6 civilians and the 2 suicide attackers. A group
called Islamic Jihad claimed responsibility for the bombings
and said that the attacks were to get the MNF out of Lebanon.

seasons. “I Love Lucy” became the most watched show in

to end its run at the top of the Nielsen ratings. In 2012, “I Love
Lucy” was voted the ‘Best TV Show of All Time’ in a survey
conducted by ABC News and People Magazine.

DC. on this day in 1792. The building became known as the White
House in 1818.

The 1903 World Series was the first modern World Series to be
played in Major League Baseball. It was between the Boston
Americans of the American League and the Pittsburgh Pirates
of the National League in a best-of-nine series, with Boston
prevailing five games to three, winning the last four.

Paul Frederic Simon is 77 years old today.

Singer-songwriter Paul Simon is known for his partnership
with Art Garfunkel in Simon & Garfunkel. He went on to find
solo success with albums like Graceland and Still  Crazy
After All These Years. Simon met Garfunkel while both
were performing in Alice in Wonderland for their sixth
grade graduation and they went on to perform at school
dances together.

(Fox News) – It was learned Wednesday, Celeste Yarnall, who
wooed Elvis Presley on screen, captivated audiences on “Star
Trek” and made pulses race as “the original flower child” in the
1968 cult classic “Eve,” passed away Sunday afternoon after
“a long struggle” with ovarian cancer. 

Celeste Yarnell celebrated the 50th anniversary of Star Trek with 
William Shartner at a convention in Bellaria, Italy.

President George H. W. Bush nominated Clarence Thomas, (above) 
a federal Circuit Judge in 1991, to succeed retiring Supreme Court 
Justice Thurgood Marshall. Senate confirmation hearings on Thomas 
were initially completed until a report of a private interview of Anita
Hill by the FBI was leaked to the press. The hearings were then 
reopened, and Hill was called to publicly testify. She said in the 
televised hearings on this day in 1991, Thomas had sexually
harassed her while he was her supervisor at the Department of
Education and the EEOC.
